Issues That Matter

Ready to Lead With Common Sense and Courage

"I’m not doing this for power—I’m doing this for my kids, for your kids, and for the future of our great state. If we want real results, we need real people with real-life experience making decisions. Together, we can rebuild trust in Michigan’s elections and build a system that works for everyone."

Educating the Public on Voter Laws and Voter Fraud

Many voters aren’t aware that voter fraud in Michigan is a felony punishable by up to four years in prison. Smith believes that most people want to follow the law—they just need to understand it.

To help prevent fraud before it happens, he plans to launch a comprehensive public awareness campaign to educate citizens on voting laws, risks, and consequences. The campaign will use plain language, real-world examples, and targeted outreach to ensure every voter knows what’s at stake.

Equal and Unbiased Enforcement of Election Laws

Michigan Election Law (MCL 168.932) is clear: violating voting laws is a felony, and the law should apply equally to everyone.

As Secretary of State, Smith pledges to enforce election laws with zero tolerance for bias or political favoritism. It won’t matter whether someone is a Democrat, Republican, or Independent—if they break the law, they’ll face prosecution. Smith believes the law should protect the people, not the powerful.

Automatic Voter Registration Address Updates

Smith supports automatic voter registration address updates. When a lawful and verified citizen updates their address with the Secretary of State, their voter registration should automatically reflect that change. If they cannot be verified as lawful voters, then they will be removed from the voting roll until they can be verified.

This simple step would prevent people from being registered in multiple locations or being unlawfully registered. This will reduce clerical errors, and ensure ballots are sent to the correct place—helping keep elections accurate and efficient.

Immediate Removal of Deceased Voters from the Rolls

Smith believes that once a death certificate is submitted to the county clerk, the individual should be automatically and immediately removed from Michigan’s voter rolls.

He sees this as a basic safeguard that would strengthen public confidence in the integrity of elections and reduce the potential for misuse. According to Smith, the system should reflect the living, active voters of Michigan—nothing more, nothing less.

Annual July Voter Roll Audits

If elected, Smith will implement mandatory audits of Michigan’s voter registration database every July. These audits will focus on outdated, duplicate, or fraudulent entries, with special attention given to ensuring that deceased individuals are promptly removed.

By proactively cleaning the rolls each year, Smith aims to prevent issues before they arise. He believes election integrity should be proactive—not political.
